Nathan's Final Project

Hi all,

I decided to create an e-text for my final project. The e-text is actually a wiki. I chose to use a wiki because the plan is to have the students upload and develop the content for the e-text. In essence, the wiki can host the course work for the students. As the administrator in wikispaces, I can decide if the wiki is public or private and I can view who has contributed, when, where and what. Since the wiki can be private, only those people I invite may view the content, which skits the FOIP issue. Moreover, students may create a user name so their identity is further protected.

In this particular case, I chose to design a sample Sky Science e-text, however, this could be done for any subject or topic. Wikispaces is a very easy for students to upload text, images, audio, and video. Contributers don't need to know specific wiki formatting tricks. If a student can use a word processor, they can upload to 'wikispaces'. Take a look. I would love to hear what you think. http://skyscience.wikispaces.com/

Thanks,

Nathan

My Final Project

My project ended up being a Resource site for Instructors and Students at Community Education, Augustana Faculty. I had to use the Augustana Content Management System, so no Dreamweaver in my future. I also had to put the work into a secure site, for now, until they agree to release it. So all you can do for now is go to this link (in the title), and open "LinkstoPages." There is a Word note about how to get to the website. In one form or another, this site will be active by September 5, because I need part of it to replace a different resource I used last year. So far, it's a little dull, but I'll be able to enrich it with images after I have it in a different menu list.

I was so busy looking up geo caches in Camrose, I just about forgot to do this...Thanks for a fun day, Chris and company.

The Projects

For my course summary project I created a grade 4 Social Studies web quest and a grade 4/5 novel study activies.

My Video Website Project

Here is my project using dreamweaver and blogger and css. It was good learning to use Dreamweaver after using Frintpage. Totally different environment but I think I am getting it. Also learning CSS was good as it should make learning to make webpages nice and easy. I am also looking forward to do more with Blogger and would even like to set one up for my future wife and I to record our honeymoon and my photos and what we are doing for the family.

Anyway, this is the project I did about Using Video in the classroom. I am hoping that using the new Internet Explorer won't hurt my website too much. I am also going to use captivate to do some tutorials. At some point I would like to finish this and actually put it out there as a tool for teachers.

Course Summary Project

Hi everyone.

I have uploaded my course summary project (website) up to my public_html folder. Any and all praises and/or criticisms would be greatly appreciated and you can rest assured that you will be rewarded for your benevolence. It is still a work under construction (but I won't put the construction signs up, for now).

Rick Mercer Reports
To my fellow colleagues- are you languishing in the heat?
For some comic relief- check out Rick Mercer Reports http://www.cbc.ca/mercerreport/. There are the highlights of this past season. For additional humour go to the archives (left sidebar) to week of April 4 "Dante's Surplus". Rick makes an interesting commentary on Alberta's prosperity.

Captivating

Hi folks,

Just in case I end up doing the CSS and/or Captivate tutorials sooner rather than later, here's the link to the free 30 day download for Macromedia Captivate: http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/
You'll need to download and install this program to do the demo in class.
